CFA DISTRIBUTED 53,163 EMERGENCY FOOD PACKAGES IN 2010
- An emergency food package consists of seven days worth of food; the amount of food a household receives is based on family size.
- On average, an emergency food package consists of 10 bags of groceries - about $170 worth of food.
- CFA provided Thanksgiving food packages to 3961 households – 11,886 people.
- CFA increased the number of times a client can come for help 12 times a year.
- 38% of all recipients were children and 14% were seniors.
- CFA helped 1517 households with other basic needs: . Rent – 299 households, Security Deposits – 282 households, Utility and Heating Bills – 929 households, Miscellaneous Assistance - 7. In 2010, CFA paid over $1.1 million on behalf of its clients to prevent evictions, disconnection of utility services and for heating oil and security deposits. This funding comes from both government and private grants.
*It is important to note that the number of families served depends upon the availability of funding, and the amount of the monthly bills. Monthly rents and utility costs keep increasing each year. Government funding continues to be reduced.
